JOHN HARTLEY 21 MILE CHALLENGE MEMORIAL WALK
A BIG THANK YOU to all who took part on Sunday 30 June for John’s Memorial 21 mile Challenge. Well done to Andrea, Graham, Barbara and Ray for completing the 21 miles, and well done to those that did part in the morning and part in the afternoon. My thanks also go to the leaders of the walk and the helpers who ferried weary people between points. The toast to John at the pub rounded off the day with a lovely convivial finish. Thank you all very much for such a great turn out showing appreciation of John’s work for the ramblers.
WALK THE SAXON SHORE WAY
After the completion of the Monarch’s Way, a start of a new venture.
In 2020 we plan to begin walking the Saxon Shore Way. This long distance footpath was named after a string of Roman forts along the Kent coast.
The 160 mile Saxon Shore Way begins in Gravesend, it then follows the Thames and Kent shoreline to Hastings in East Sussex.
The intention is to have two or three trips a year, staying for four nights. The walking will be short distances and leisurely, with stopping to see the sights. Rochester Cathedral, Richborough Roman Fort and Dover Castle are just a few of the interesting sights on the Saxon Shore Way.
There is much variety in the Kent countryside, which include the Kent marshes and the famous White Cliffs of Dover.
If you are interested in this project contact Mike Shephard 01525 755590 or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org. A meeting will need to be arranged for those who are interested at the end of September or the beginning of October.
